“My cousin said that I should use my free time wisely and recommended me to apply for a scholarship for a hairstylist course.”
“My dad passed away 6 years ago and left me and my mom behind. As a single parent and an only child, I have to work to support my mom and my daughter. I remember when I first came to Singapore in mid 2014, my daughter was only 4 years old. She just entered kindergarten. It was hard to leave her. However, it was difficult to get a good pay in Indonesia as I am not a degree holder.
I work as a domestic helper and get one day off once a month. I always use my day off to meet up with my cousin, who also works in Singapore. We both love reading books, I often borrow her books, read it, and talk about the storyline afterwards.
My cousin said that I should use my free time wisely and recommended me to apply for a scholarship for a hairstylist course. Fortunately, my scholarship was recently accepted and I can start my course next year. So starting from next year onwards, I will get 2 days off per month. Thankfully, my employer agreed and they fully supported my decision. I hope that after I graduate, I can go back to my hometown. I want to open a hair salon, and make my mom and my daughter happy.”
